I learned it from my mother
I was doing something the other day and realized “wow! I knew how to do that because my mom did it like that.” And then I thought it would be nice to blog about things that my mom taught me since this is her birthday, (Oct 25) and it would be a lovely way to say “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!”
Funny thing is…I don’t remember what the original thought was that started me thinking about writing the blog in the first place! Let me see. Was it …
I learned how to cook wholesome meals from my mother? —hmmmm, no that’s not it.
Was it…
I learned how to clean the house? —uh..no again.
Was it…
I learned how to make my own clothes? —negatory on that one
SHOOT!! WHAT WAS IT?
Well, the original thought will have to be another blog. But some of the things I did come up with were…
I learned how to sew a button from my mother.
I learned how to make caramel corn
I learned how to change a diaper
I learned how to make cookies
I learned how to pour peroxide over a cut to watch the white bubbles come up
I learned how to fill plastic Easter eggs with candy and hide them for the “little ones” (one candy for the egg. one for my mouth)
I learned how to wrap Christmas presents at 10pm Christmas Eve
I learned how to go back to the cheap hair place and demand that my horrible perm be straightened back out–at no extra cost.
Aside from the early life skills learned as a child, I learned a really important thing from my mother.
I learned how to be a giver to my child. To make sure he has what he needs. I know my mom loves to give good gifts to her kids. (at least to my baby brothers who always get…. I mean–just kidding!) Seriously, she is a giver. If we are over for dinner, she’ll send us home with something. When she helped me out after I had the baby, she would bring over some diapers, outfits, food, whatever. That’s just who she is.
Happy Birthday Mom! I love you very much!
(for my mother and friend, Karen Stippich: I love you mom and I don’t tell you enough how thankful I am for you.)
